Fill the Gaps From Missing Teeth with Dental Implants at Our Office in Paoli, Pa
What is an implant?
An implant is another option for filling the space left from a missing tooth or teeth. Unlike a bridge, the dental implant actually takes the place of the missing tooth’s roots. It is a titanium piece implanted in your jaw bone that integrates into the surrounding area. An implant acts to support an abutment and crown (or denture if multiple teeth are missing) to restore tooth function and aesthetics to the space. An implant helps to preserve the jaw bone in the area of the missing tooth, and it should not affect the natural teeth around it.
Who is a good candidate for an implant?
Anyone with spaces in their mouth can be a good candidate for a dental implant. Having an implant placed is a surgical procedure, so you may need clearance from your physician if you are undergoing any additional medical treatment or have any uncontrolled medical issues. We work with a team of fabulous oral surgeons in our area to make sure our patients have the best and most predictable results.
How long does it take to get an implant?
This is a difficult question to answer because it is very patient specific. It depends when the tooth was lost or if you still need to have it extracted. It also depends on the quality of bone in the area to be restored. Sometimes bone needs to be added to a location before it can hold an implant successfully. A good rule of thumb is that once the implant is placed, a healing time of 3-4 months should be expected before work on the final abutment and crown can be started. The best part is that once the work is completed, you have a wonderful, stress-free, incredibly long-lasting restoration in your mouth!
